Full disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we're on this list. So yes, we're biased. Here's what we'd actually tell a friend, including when you should hire someone else.
Outsourcing software development used to mean handing a spec to a vendor and waiting. Today most outsourcing companies sell three things under one name: full project outsourcing, dedicated teams and staff augmentation. The question that decides it: when something goes wrong at 11 a.m. on a Tuesday, who fixes it, your lead or the vendor's project manager?
The old outsourcing failure was a gap between the people who wrote the spec and the people who wrote the code. Requirements went one way, a build came back months later, and nobody on your side could explain how it worked. The fix most good firms have landed on is the same: put the outsourced engineers in your repos, your CI and your standups, and make the code yours from the first pull request.
That shifts the questions you should ask. Not "how big is your bench?" but "who are the named people, what hours do they work, and who directs them day to day?" If your engineers review code at 10 a.m. Eastern and the vendor's team is asleep, every review turns into a next-day round trip. Read in-house vs outsourcing and staff augmentation vs outsourcing before you shortlist.
Pricing models matter too. Fixed-price contracts move risk to the vendor and slow down every change request; time-and-materials keeps you flexible but needs a lead on your side. Our guide to fixed price vs time and materials covers the trade-off.
We're trusted by Fortune 500 engineering teams. When companies come to us to outsource software development, we put senior engineers on their team: same standups, same repos, same review rules. Only the top 1% of the tens of thousands of engineers we've interviewed make it, and real-time overlap with US teams, including New York hours, means same-day code review. When the work is a scoped system, a Ryz team owns delivery of it and ships it with your engineers. When the work is AI, our AI pod teams build and ship production systems; see our case studies.
Our rates are public. Mid-level engineers (comparable to Amazon L5) run $7,000 to $10,000 a month; seniors (comparable to Amazon L6) run $10,000 to $15,000; leads start at $15,000 and are quoted per team. You get a plan, a price and the names of the people before you start. The steps are Talk, Match, Join and Grow. More on our software development services.
Where we're not the right fit: if you need a board-level transformation program, Cognizant or Globant run those. If you need Europe or Asia time zones or follow-the-sun coverage, EPAM, N-iX or Itransition fit better. If you want a self-serve freelance marketplace or a trial before talking to anyone, we're not that.
Founded in Buenos Aires and working "since 2009," BairesDev says it has 4,000+ engineers across 100+ technologies and 500+ active clients. It offers all three outsourcing models, including a full-stack team that "owns end-to-end delivery," and says its teams work US business hours.
Where it fits: buyers who want a large vendor with its own project managers. The catch: ask how much day-to-day direction stays with your leads. See Ryz Labs vs BairesDev.
EPAM is an engineering-first firm with about 62,850 people. It handles platform builds, modernization and data work for large enterprises.
Where it fits: scale with real engineering depth. The catch: a large-firm engagement floor, and confirm which delivery center staffs your team. See Ryz Labs vs EPAM.
Founded in 2003, Globant reported $2.5B in revenue over the twelve months to Q2 2026. It sells AI Pods, which it calls "the first subscription model of their kind."
Where it fits: big programs that mix design, engineering and AI. The catch: decide whether you want a subscription pod or named engineers your leads direct. See Ryz Labs vs Globant.
Cognizant reports 356,700 employees and $21.1B in 2025 revenue, and describes itself as "AI Builders." Its work spans experience transformation, intelligent processes and technology modernization.
Where it fits: very large estates that need scale and operations support. The catch: confirm up front which hours your team will work and how much real-time overlap you get with your own engineers. See Cognizant alternatives.
In IT "since 1989," ScienceSoft has 750+ experts, ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 certifications, and says it has appeared on IAOP's Global Outsourcing 100 list. Team sizes run "from 0.5 FTE to 150+ FTE." It is headquartered in McKinney, Texas, with offices in the EU and the Gulf.
Where it fits: buyers with strict vendor checklists. The catch: confirm where your team sits and what hours it keeps.
Founded in 1998, Itransition has 3,000+ engineers and says it has served 800+ clients. It covers application development, product engineering, QA, cloud and managed IT services.
Where it fits: companies that want a long-term delivery center. The catch: ask which location and time zone your team will work from.
Founded in 2002 and headquartered in Malta, N-iX has 2,400+ engineers in 10 countries, 90+ enterprise clients and AWS Premier Tier partner status.
Where it fits: companies with European operations or heavy cloud and data work. The catch: most of its offices are in Europe, so check overlap with your US team.
If you want senior engineers your leads direct, on US hours: Ryz Labs.
If you want a vendor to run delivery end to end: BairesDev, ScienceSoft or Itransition.
If you need a large program across many systems: EPAM, Globant or Cognizant.
If your team works European hours: N-iX or EPAM. For broader lists, see software development companies and dedicated development team providers.
Cost is team size times months times monthly rate. Three senior engineers at $12,000 a month for six months is $216,000. See the cost to hire a software developer.
Outsource a system when you can define it and want someone else to own delivery. Use staff augmentation when your leads have the roadmap and need senior hands. Many companies use both.
You should. Insist that work happens in your repositories, under your accounts, from day one, and put IP assignment in the contract.
Meet the actual engineers, review their code on a small paid task, and talk to a reference with a similar project.
We checked pricing and services for every provider here in October 2026. This changes often, so double-check before you sign anything.
