Full disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we're one of the options on this page. So yes, we're biased. Here's what we'd actually tell a friend, including when you should hire someone else.
Tribe AI is an AI-native strategy and services firm founded in 2019, with offices in New York, San Francisco and Lisbon. It builds production AI with forward-deployed engineers drawn from a network of senior AI practitioners, in three phases: Map, Build and Activate. It's one of the closest peers we have. People look at alternatives for structural reasons. Per TechCrunch, talent works on contracted projects rather than as full-time staff, which can affect continuity on long engagements. It's small next to global integrators (seed-funded, with a 500+ contractor network as of 2024). Its public financial-services proof points are with a global consulting firm, not named financial institutions. And pricing isn't published. For a sharp, well-scoped use case with senior specialists, Tribe AI is a strong pick.
If you want senior engineers who build AI inside your cloud and ship it to production, as one steady team, start with us. Our AI pod teams are dedicated: often around seven senior engineers, including a tech lead, an ML engineer and backend engineers, working in your repos, CI and standups with weekly demos. We work in AWS, Azure, GitHub and Postgres, with Anthropic and OpenAI models. When the work is done, you can add people or have us hand the whole system over to your team. Fortune 500 engineering teams trust us, and we serve US enterprises across industries, including financial services. One of our pods built marketing compliance review for a global capital management firm, covering 8,000+ documents and cutting review from days to hours. See our case studies.
Where we're not the right fit: we don't sell a strategy phase like Tribe's Map, or change-management work like Activate. We're engineers. We also can't point to model-provider partner programs the way Tribe can. See Ryz Labs vs Tribe AI.
Turing is the closest match to Tribe's model at a larger scale. It hires forward-deployed AI engineers who own customer outcomes end to end, and sells Advise, Augment and Build services. Its core business supplies training data and evaluation to frontier labs, so it brings model-level depth. Its Build offer starts with rapid prototyping, then moves to production engineering with KPIs set on day one. The catch: enterprise build is a newer line next to the lab business, and its financial-services results are anonymized.
Caylent is an AWS Premier partner with an AWS Generative AI Competency. In 2024 AWS named it Financial Services Industry Partner of the Year in North America and global Generative AI Industry Solution Partner of the Year. It also sells an output-based, AI-powered cloud migration offering. If your stack is AWS, that's a strong credential. The catch: it's tied to one cloud, so it fits less well if you run on Azure or Google Cloud.
If Tribe feels too small, Thoughtworks is an engineering-led consultancy with 10,000+ people and 47 offices in 18 countries (their figures). In 2026 it launched AI/works for agentic development and Agent/works, a control plane for governing agents in production. The catch: its workforce is weighted toward Asia-Pacific, and the platforms are new.
Slalom is a consulting and implementation partner with Anthropic on AWS, and an AWS Premier Tier partner. Slalom says AWS named it 2024 Generative AI Consulting Partner of the Year (Global). It suits buyers who want consulting and implementation together on that stack. The catch: it's a consulting firm, so expect a consulting-style engagement.
Stay if you want strategy, build and adoption from one firm. Tribe's Map, Build and Activate phases cover finding the use case, shipping it and redesigning workflows around it, which most engineering-only firms don't. Stay if you value its senior specialist network, with backgrounds at major tech and AI firms. Stay if you're in legal or financial services on Google Cloud: Tribe joined Google Cloud's Gemini Enterprise for Legal and Financial Services program. Its compliance story is solid too: it says it's SOC 2 Type II certified and Microsoft SSPA compliant, and keeps data client-hosted. And its case studies show real speed-ups, such as outside-in due diligence research cut from 7-10 days to under a day for a global consulting firm.
Consider moving if your project will run for a long time and continuity of the same engineers matters, or if you want a full-time dedicated team. Our guide to dedicated AI engineering teams explains the trade-offs.
Tribe staffs forward-deployed engineers from a contractor network for project work. An AI pod team like ours is a dedicated group of senior engineers that joins your repos, CI and standups as one team in your time zone. When the system is done, you can grow the pod or have it hand everything over to your own engineers.
Caylent if you're on AWS, Turing for model depth, or us for a dedicated pod on New York hours. See our guide to AI engineering teams for financial institutions.
None of these firms publishes rates, so you'll need quotes. Scope the same piece of work and ask each firm for a team, a timeline and a price.
