Full disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we're on this list. So yes, we're biased. Here's what we'd actually tell a friend, including when you should hire someone else.
Most IT staffing agencies sell the same three things: contract talent, contract-to-hire and direct hire, filled from a large recruiting network with US offices. The question that decides it: are you filling a requisition, or do you need senior engineers who own part of your roadmap? Big agencies are built for the first. Pick by the role, then by speed and scale.
Traditional IT staffing was built to fill requisitions fast: a recruiter matches a resume to a job description, the contractor starts, and your manager directs the work. That model still works well for defined roles like a QA analyst, a help desk lead or a Salesforce admin with a clear backlog.
It works less well when the work is ambiguous and senior: owning a service, modernizing a system, or building an AI feature that has to reach production. There, the quality of the person matters more than how fast a resume arrives, and you want engineers who join your standups and code review on your hours.
The other shift is delivery. Most large agencies now also run offshore centers in India or Mexico and sell managed teams. Ask who would actually do the work, and from where.
We're not a resume-matching agency. Only the top 1% of the tens of thousands of engineers we've interviewed make it, and they work on your team, reporting to your leads, on US business hours including New York hours. When the job is building an AI system, our AI pod teams, about seven senior engineers including a tech lead and an ML engineer, build in your cloud and ship to production. Fortune 500 engineering teams trust us, and we publish our prices.

Where we're not the right fit: you need a high volume of short contracts across help desk, infrastructure and admin roles in many US cities, or on-site staff in a specific office. The national agencies below are built for that.
TEKsystems, part of Allegis Group, was founded in 1983 and says it serves 6,000 customers, including 80% of the Fortune 500, with $7B+ in annual revenue. It places "one person, an entire team or full-scale outsourcing," with recruiters segmented by skill area, and runs a services arm for cloud, data and AI work.
Insight Global, founded in 2001 in Atlanta, says it has 2,000+ recruiters, works with more than 800 of the Fortune 1000, and delivers a qualified shortlist within 48 hours of a clear brief. It offers contract, contract-to-hire and direct hire, plus managed teams, and is opening a second delivery center in Hyderabad in October 2026.
Founded in 1948, Robert Half places contract IT talent, full-time hires and executives across software development, cybersecurity, data, cloud and ERP. Its annual report says permanent-placement fees are generally a percentage of the new employee's annual pay. Tech consulting runs through its Protiviti subsidiary.
Technology is 93% of Kforce's revenue. It places contract, contract-to-hire and direct hires, and sells Team Solutions with a dedicated team lead. Its 10-K reports about 7,800 consultants on assignment at the end of 2025, an average technology bill rate of about $89 an hour, and an average assignment of 10 months.
Randstad Digital launched in 2023 to bring Randstad's technology talent under one brand. It says it has 25,000+ engineers and digital experts, and offers contract and permanent staffing, talent as a service, and managed solutions with dedicated delivery PODs.
Apex Systems, founded in 1995 in Richmond, now appears as Everforth Apex after its parent ASGN renamed itself Everforth in April 2026. It says it has 18,000+ consultants on assignment and positions itself as a technology services firm across app development, data, cloud and cybersecurity.
Motion Recruitment, founded in 1989 in Boston and acquired by Kelly Services in 2024, runs recruiting teams that each focus on one tech category, from software and data to cybersecurity. It offers IT contract, direct hire and statement-of-work engagements.
Experis is ManpowerGroup's IT brand. It offers staff augmentation, direct placement and professional services, including fixed-scope projects and managed services with SLAs, with onshore, hybrid or multi-shore delivery.
If you need contractors for defined IT roles across many US locations, TEKsystems, Insight Global and Robert Half have the reach. If you want recruiters who live in one tech niche, Motion Recruitment. If you want a vendor-run team with offshore delivery, Randstad Digital, Kforce or Everforth Apex.
If you need senior engineers who own part of your roadmap, or an AI pod that ships, that's us. Compare more options in our software development outsourcing companies guide.
For high-volume contract staffing, TEKsystems, Insight Global and Robert Half are the largest options here. For senior engineers on your team and AI pods, we'd pick Ryz Labs.
Contract staff are billed hourly: the agency adds a markup to the person's pay. Direct hires are usually a one-time fee tied to salary. None of the agencies here publishes its markup; Kforce reports an average technology bill rate of about $89 an hour.
The terms overlap. IT staffing usually means filling roles with contractors or direct hires. Staff augmentation usually means adding engineers who work on your team long term. See our IT staff augmentation companies guide.
The national agencies here have offices in most large US cities. If the work is remote, location matters less than vetting and hours.
We checked pricing and services for every provider here in October 2026. This changes often, so double-check before you sign anything.
