Disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we compete with the companies on this page. Read it with that in mind. We've flagged every case where we'd send you elsewhere.
Andela is a global technical talent marketplace that started in Africa and now calls itself "the human layer powering production AI." They say they have 17,000 certified AI-native engineers and have trained 200,000+ technologists since 2014. Wikipedia puts the network at 150,000+ people across about 135 countries, roughly 60% in Africa and Latin America. They sell individual engineers, blended teams, AI system development and training. The most common reason people look elsewhere is time zones. Overlap with US Eastern depends on the region your engineer is in, and one sample profile on Andela's own site shows four hours of overlap. Pricing also isn't published. If you need global reach or follow-the-sun coverage, though, Andela is one of the few firms built for it.
If your team is in the US and you want senior engineers embedded on your hours, start with us. Fortune 500 engineering teams trust us to place senior Latin American engineers inside their teams, within an hour of US time zones, so code review happens the same day. Only the top 1% make it: recruiters source, our in-house ranking system and structured interviews narrow the pipeline, and a recruiter curates the shortlist before you run the final interview. You keep the person. If you came to Andela for AI work, we also run AI pod teams: dedicated pods of senior engineers that build AI systems in your cloud and repos, with weekly demos. One pod built a fraud detection system for a global fleet company that surfaced $5.94M in fraud, confirmed by the client's own fraud team (see our case studies).
Where we're not the right fit: if you need engineers in Africa, Europe or Asia time zones, or follow-the-sun coverage, a global network like Andela is built for that. We also don't run training programs to upskill your own staff the way Andela does, and we don't publish self-serve pricing before a conversation. See Ryz Labs vs Andela for more.
If you like Andela's scale but want everyone on US hours, BairesDev is the obvious swap. They say they have 4,000+ engineers across 100+ technologies, mostly in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, and that engineers "work your hours." They offer staff augmentation, dedicated teams and outsourced projects, including AI and LLM development. The catch: some Clutch reviewers mention rate increases and early developer churn, and pricing isn't published.
Many Andela buyers are large financial-services companies. Endava is NYSE-listed with a dedicated payments practice, and they claim "90% of largest payment companies count on us." Delivery is nearshore from Latin America and Eastern Europe. It's a managed-delivery firm, so it suits buyers who want a vendor to own a program rather than a marketplace to pick people from. The catch: Eastern European teams overlap less with US afternoons.
If you liked Andela's global reach but want more flexible terms, Toptal lets you hire individuals hourly, part-time or full-time. They say the average match takes under 24 hours, and they offer a no-risk trial of up to two weeks. They also market freelance AI experts. The catch: Clutch lists a $100-$149/hr band, and like Andela, time-zone overlap depends on the person.
Arc is a global network (they say 450,000 people in 190 countries) for both freelance and full-time hires, and it's one of the few that publishes rates. Full-time placement costs 20% of salary. If Andela's unpublished pricing is the problem, Arc makes budgeting easier. The catch: it's a marketplace, so you'll do more of the evaluation and management yourself.
Stay if you need global coverage. Andela spans Africa, Latin America, Europe and India, which matters for follow-the-sun support or very large programs. Stay if you're in financial services and want a vendor already working with names like Goldman Sachs, Capital One and SoFi (logos shown on Andela's site). Stay if you want to upskill your own team as well as add people: Andela invests heavily in AI-engineering certification and offers training as a service. And they say hiring can take as little as 48 hours, with a skills assessment platform (Qualified) they own.
Consider moving if your team is in New York and partial overlap is slowing code review, or if you want a vendor that publishes how it prices. Our guide to nearshore developer partners for New York companies ranks options by Eastern-time overlap.
BairesDev if you want a large outsourced program, or us if you want top 1% senior engineers embedded in your team, or an AI pod team that ships to production. Both work close to US Eastern time.
Toptal markets freelance AI experts, BairesDev staffs AI alongside app work, and we run dedicated AI pod teams. Our guide to companies to hire AI engineers covers more.
Andela doesn't publish pricing. One sample profile on its site shows $6,500-$8,500 a month for a senior data analyst, which is illustrative only. Arc publishes freelance rates; most others quote per role.
Yes. BairesDev offers dedicated teams with its own technical project managers, and Endava runs managed programs. Our AI pod teams are a third option: a dedicated group of senior engineers, often around seven, including a tech lead, that works inside your repos and your sprint rhythm and can hand the whole system over to your team when the work is done.
