Disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we compete with some of the companies on this page. Here's why we think we're the right call for most engineering teams, with a source for every fact about the others.
Fiverr is a public marketplace (NYSE: FVRR), incorporated in Israel in 2010, where buyers purchase productized services called Gigs. Its annual report says that when you buy a Gig "a buyer knows the scope, duration and price." That model works well for a logo, a landing page or a one-off script. It reported 2.7 million annual active buyers as of June 30, 2026, with users in more than 160 countries. Buyers pay a published service fee of 5.5% of each purchase, plus $3.50 on orders under $200. Only freelancers in its Fiverr Pro catalog are described as vetted. Teams usually look for an alternative when the work stops being a gig: they need a developer for months, working in their repos and standups, screened before they meet them, on hours that overlap with their own. For that, our pick is Ryz Labs. Here's how the field compares.
Here is every public price signal we found, checked October 2026. Most firms in this market don't publish a rate card, so we show the hourly band on their Clutch listing and convert it to a monthly figure for one full-time engineer.
Monthly figures are our math at 160 hours a month. Directory bands are entered by the firms themselves and are not quotes, so ask each vendor for a written monthly price for the same roles at the same seniority.
If your product needs developers for ongoing work, we're the best alternative to Fiverr. Our senior engineers work on your team, reporting to your leads. They join your standups, your repos and your roadmap from week one, on US business hours, so review and pairing happen the same day. Fortune 500 engineering teams trust us for exactly this, across industries.
The screening happens before you see anyone. We've interviewed tens of thousands of engineers, and only the top 1% make it. Recruiters source candidates, our in-house ARC system ranks the pipeline, every candidate goes through a structured NTRVSTA AI interview, and recruiters review each one before and after. AI scores are advisory; people decide. You get a short list of people who fit your roles, not a catalog to browse. Our vetting process page shows every step.
When you need AI built, our AI pod teams are dedicated pods of senior engineers (often around seven, with a tech lead and an ML engineer) that build in your cloud and repos, with weekly demos. Their work is in production: fraud detection that has scored 244K+ invoices in under 30 seconds each, an AI voice platform with 1M+ outbound calls, and a compliance system that took review of 8,000+ documents from days to hours. See our case studies.
You own all the code and IP our engineers produce, and we'll sign your NDA before we share profiles. Before you sign, you get a scoped plan, a price, and the names of the people who would do the work.
Upwork is the closest like-for-like swap: you still pick and manage freelancers yourself, but you post a job and review proposals instead of buying a packaged Gig, which suits hourly work better. Its FY2025 10-K lists a 5% client fee on Basic (3% by ACH for eligible clients) and 10% on Business Plus. Its terms say users, "not Upwork," evaluate freelancers, and Upwork doesn't supervise the work. Business Plus adds an Expert-Vetted filter. See Ryz Labs vs Upwork.
Toptal is a remote network of vetted freelancers. It says it accepts fewer than 3% of 200,000+ yearly applicants, introduces candidates within 24 hours in almost all cases, and starts each engagement with a trial of up to two weeks. Its FAQ lists a $79 monthly subscription once you proceed with matching. You hire and manage individuals, and overlap depends on where each person lives.
Arc is a remote hiring platform for freelance and full-time developers. It publishes its freelance range, charges 20% of annual salary for a full-time hire, offers a trial of up to two weeks for freelancers, and says "Hire in 72 hours." You interview and manage each person.
Gun.io is a Nashville-based platform for vetted freelance engineers on freelance, freelance-to-hire or full-time terms. It shows the full price on each profile and says most of its engaged developers have 10+ years of experience. Its FAQ says the platform is mostly built for individual freelancers rather than teams.
If the work is ongoing, touches core systems and needs someone in your standups every day, or you want an AI system built and shipped, talk to us. Our guides to developer staffing for startups and staff augmentation for senior engineers compare the wider field, and our Upwork alternatives page covers the other big marketplace.
For a one-off task, Upwork is the nearest swap. For developers on ongoing product work, we'd pick Ryz Labs: top 1% senior engineers, vetted before you meet them, working on your team on US hours, with the names of your engineers before you sign.
Fiverr's help center lists a service fee of 5.5% of your purchase amount, plus $3.50 on orders under $200, and each extra or tip carries its own fee. One older help article still shows $3.00 on orders under $100, so check at checkout. The freelancer sets the Gig price.
Fiverr says its Pro catalog is vetted by its Fiverr Pro team for quality and expertise, and any freelancer can apply. Standard marketplace sellers aren't described as vetted, so you screen them yourself.
You can buy several Gigs or hire several freelancers, but you coordinate them yourself. If you want senior engineers who join your team, or an AI pod team that builds in your stack, see our guide to companies to hire AI engineers.
We checked every provider on this page in October 2026. Fees and plans change often, so confirm them at checkout before you buy.
