Full disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we're on this list. So yes, we're biased. Here's what we'd actually tell a friend, including when you should hire someone else. Every fact about BairesDev and the other firms comes from what they publish, with sources at the end.
BairesDev sells three shapes of help under one roof: staff augmentation, dedicated teams led by its own technical PMs, and fully outsourced projects. So the question that decides your shortlist is not price or headcount. It is this: who do you want leading the work day to day, your own engineering leads, a vendor PM, or a freelancer you manage yourself? Answer that, and most of the field sorts itself.
BairesDev is one of the best-known nearshore names. It says it has 4,000+ engineers across 100+ technologies, more than 500 client companies and teams ready in 2-4 weeks. Buyers who start there usually want capacity, and they want it in US hours. That part is easy to match. Several firms below also staff Latin American engineers on US time.
The harder part is the operating model. With staff augmentation, engineers join your team and your leads run the work. With BairesDev's Dedicated Teams, it says its tech PMs "lead the team and drive delivery", and every dedicated team includes a PM and Scrum Master. Those are different products. A buyer who wants their own architects in charge should not end up with a vendor-run pod by accident, and the reverse is also true.
Price is the other gap. BairesDev says staff augmentation typically runs 30-50% less than a fully loaded local hire, but it does not publish rates. Neither does anyone else on this list, except us.
Ryz engineers work on your team, reporting to your leads. You meet them by name before the engagement starts, and they join your repos, CI, standups and roadmap from week one. Most of our engineers ship code in their first week. When the work is AI, we put together an AI pod team: about seven senior engineers including a tech lead, an ML engineer and backend engineers, building in your cloud with the tools you already use. A team can start in under two weeks once you say go.
The price is public. Mid-level engineers run $7,000 to $10,000 a month, senior engineers $10,000 to $15,000, and leads are quoted per team. Only the top 1% of the tens of thousands of engineers we interview make it, and you own all the code and IP. If an engineer isn't the right fit, we replace them free. See our vetting process and rates.
Where we're not the right fit: if you want a vendor PM to own delivery while your team stays hands-off, a dedicated-team model like BairesDev's or Gorilla Logic's pods suits you better. If you need dozens of engineers across many niche technologies at once, or a fixed-price outsourced project, BairesDev's breadth is a real advantage. Our Ryz Labs vs BairesDev page goes deeper.
Gorilla Logic has done nearshore software engineering for more than 20 years, with centers in San Jose, Medellin, Guadalajara and Mexico City. It sells staff augmentation, Gorilla Pods, multi-stream delivery and product, platform and quality engineering. It publishes ramp times by model: one to two weeks for augmentation, 3-4 weeks for pods, 4-8 weeks for multi-stream work.
Where Gorilla Logic beats us: it says average client tenure sits at 8.5 years, which tells you it is built for long relationships with vendor-led pods. The catch is size of commitment: Clutch lists a $250,000+ minimum project, so it fits programs more than a first team.
Toptal is a global network of vetted freelancers: developers, designers, finance experts, and product and project managers. It says average time to match is under 24 hours, and every new engagement starts with a trial period where you are not charged if you are not satisfied.
Where Toptal beats us: speed and flexibility for one person, including skills outside engineering. The catch is structural: you manage each freelancer yourself, and US Eastern overlap depends on the individual. See BairesDev vs Toptal.
Andela started as an Africa-focused talent company in 2014 and now calls itself "the human layer powering production AI". It says it has 17,000 certified AI-native engineers, and it sells individual engineers, blended teams, managed AI builds and training, with partner offerings for GitHub, Anthropic and OpenAI.
Where Andela beats us: true global coverage, useful for follow-the-sun support or teams in Europe and Africa, plus training at scale. The catch: overlap with New York hours varies by region. See Andela vs BairesDev.
Wizeline is a 2014 firm with about 2,000 people on its own count. It sells Studio, Project and Staff engagements plus Agentic Pods and Forward Deployed Engineers. Its Agentic Pods page compares a 10-person traditional pod at $120,000 a month with an agentic pod of six people plus agents at $86,400 by month 12, priced on outcomes.
Where Wizeline beats us: if you want a vendor to run the pod and be paid on outcomes, it says so plainly. The catch: Clutch lists a $100,000+ minimum, and delivery spans Vietnam and Europe as well as Latin America.
Globant is a listed firm with $2,454.9 million in 2025 revenue. Its annual report says most work is billed at hourly rates, and it also sells AI Pods billed per supervised token on its Glob.AI platform.
Where Globant beats us: scale across regions, and a metered AI option if procurement wants consumption pricing. The catch: you are buying a program or metered output, not a named team. See BairesDev vs Globant.
If your leads want to run the work and need named senior people this month: Ryz Labs. You know the monthly cost before the first call.
If you want a vendor PM to own a workstream for years: Gorilla Logic, or BairesDev's Dedicated Teams.
If you need one specialist for a few weeks: Toptal.
If you need coverage across Europe, Africa and the Americas: Andela.
If you need very wide stack coverage under one contract: stay with BairesDev. That breadth is real.
For nearshore teams, Gorilla Logic, Wizeline and Ryz Labs. For freelancers, Toptal. For global benches, Andela. For large programs, Globant. Our BairesDev alternatives page covers more options.
No. It says staff augmentation typically costs 30-50% less than a fully loaded local hire and that price depends on stack, team size and scope. Our BairesDev pricing page collects what is public.
With augmentation, engineers join your team and your leads direct the work. With a dedicated team, the vendor usually supplies the PM and owns delivery. Our guide to staff augmentation vs managed services walks through the trade-off.
Yes, with most firms here. Ask about minimums first: Clutch lists six-figure minimum projects for Gorilla Logic and Wizeline, while Ryz and Toptal price per person.
Ryz AI pod teams, Wizeline's Agentic Pods, Andela's managed builds, Globant's AI Pods and BairesDev's AI development line all do. See Gorilla Logic competitors and Andela competitors for more, or talk to us.
