Full disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we're on this list. So yes, we're biased. Here's what we'd actually tell a friend, including when you should hire someone else.
"IT staff augmentation" covers two different purchases. One is filling IT roles across the business, from help desk to cloud architects, usually through a large national staffing firm with local offices. The other is adding senior software engineers to a product team. Decide which one you're buying, because the best vendor for each is different.
Large IT staffing firms are built for breadth. They recruit across hundreds of role types, have recruiters in most US metros, and can often send resumes within days. That's what you want when you need a ServiceNow admin in Dallas, a network engineer on site in Atlanta, and a project manager for a six-month ERP rollout.
Software teams usually need something narrower. They need a senior engineer who can ship in a specific stack, pass a real technical bar, join standups and review pull requests the same day. For that, the vetting depth and time-zone fit matter more than the number of offices. A recruiter's keyword match isn't the same as a senior engineer having already reviewed the candidate's code.
The third question is how much you want to manage. A freelance network gives you a person and leaves the rest to you. A staffing firm handles recruiting and replacement. A partner like us adds the engineer to your team and stays involved while you grow it. Our guide to what staff augmentation is covers the models.
We provide senior Latin American engineers, plus data, product and design people, who work on your team: your standups, your repos, your roadmap from week one. Only the top 1% of the tens of thousands of engineers we've interviewed make it. Recruiters source, our in-house ARC system ranks the pipeline, candidates go through structured NTRVSTA AI interviews, and recruiters review everyone before and after. AI scores are advisory; people decide. We're trusted by Fortune 500 engineering teams.
Why we're first for software teams: our engineers work US business hours, including New York hours, so code review happens the same day. Pricing is public: mid-level engineers (comparable to Amazon L5) are $7,000 to $10,000 a month and seniors (comparable to L6) are $10,000 to $15,000. When you need to build AI systems, our AI pod teams do that work in your cloud. More on our staff augmentation page.
Where we're not the right fit: our people work remotely from Latin America, so if you need on-site staff in a US office, such as desktop support or data center technicians, TEKsystems, Robert Half or Insight Global have local offices for that. If you want an hourly freelancer you pick yourself, Toptal is built for that. And if you need people in Europe or Asia time zones, Andela's global network fits better.
TEKsystems was founded in 1983 and is part of Allegis Group. It calls itself "a multibillion-dollar technology services provider and systems integrator," claims "$7B+ Annual revenue," and says it serves "80% of the Fortune 500." Beyond staffing, it sells managed services, cloud, data and AI work, with AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft and Snowflake among its partners.
Why it fits: one vendor that can fill a wide range of IT roles and also take on managed services. The catch: rates aren't published, and the experience depends heavily on your local account team.
Robert Half "pioneered specialized staffing services in 1948" and trades on the NYSE. Its technology practice places "short- and long-term IT and tech professionals" and says you can hire "often in as little as 48 hours." It says it places tens of thousands of tech professionals a year and uses AI matching to find candidates.
Why it fits: speed and reach for common IT roles in US cities. The catch: it's a generalist staffing firm, so for senior engineering roles, plan to run your own deep technical screen.
Insight Global, based in Atlanta since 2001, claims "60K+ Placements per year," "2,000+ Recruiters" and "800+ Fortune 1000 customers." It says it can deliver a "qualified shortlist within 48 hours of a clear role brief," and lists cleared cybersecurity, AI/ML, cloud architecture and software engineering among its specialties.
Why it fits: large recruiter capacity and cleared-role experience. The catch: like most national firms, you'll want your own engineers to run the technical interviews for senior software roles.
BairesDev says it has "4,000+ timezone-aligned, AI-augmented software engineers" and that "Less than 1% of applicants make it through." Its staff augmentation engineers "work your hours, use your tools, and follow your workflows," and it says teams are ready in two to four weeks.
Why it fits: nearshore scale for large engineering programs. The catch: no published rates or trial. See Ryz Labs vs BairesDev.
Toptal, founded in 2010, says you can "Hire in under 48 hours" and offers a "trial period of up to two weeks" where you aren't billed if you're not satisfied. It covers engineering, data, cloud and design, plus marketing and finance talent.
Why it fits: the fastest path to a single freelancer with low commitment. The catch: you manage the person day to day. See Ryz Labs vs Toptal.
Andela, founded in 2014, says it has "17K" certified AI-native engineers and has served "650+ clients." It deploys engineers into production teams and also sells AI data services and workforce upskilling.
Why it fits: global reach when you need coverage outside US hours. The catch: overlap with your day depends on where the engineer lives, so confirm it. See Ryz Labs vs Andela.
If you're adding senior software engineers to a product team, we'd pick Ryz Labs: top 1% engineers on US hours, published pricing, and AI pod teams when you need to build AI systems.
If you're an IT department filling many role types across locations, TEKsystems, Robert Half or Insight Global. Pick the one with the strongest recruiters in your metro.
If you need one freelancer this week, Toptal. If you need global coverage, Andela. For more on senior engineering roles, see our senior engineer staff augmentation guide.
Adding outside IT or engineering people to your team for a period of time, while you keep direction of the work. It differs from outsourcing, where the vendor owns delivery. See staff augmentation vs outsourcing.
Most firms don't publish rates. Ours are $7,000 to $15,000 per engineer per month. Three senior engineers at $12,000 for six months comes to $216,000. Our cost to hire a software developer page compares this to hiring in-house.
Not quite. A recruiting agency mostly fills roles and steps away. A staff augmentation partner stays involved while the person works with you. Our recruiting agency vs staff augmentation guide explains the difference.
Robert Half and Insight Global both advertise 48-hour timelines for candidates or shortlists, and Toptal says under 48 hours for a hire. Senior engineering roles with a real technical bar usually take longer, whichever vendor you use.
We checked pricing and services for every provider here in October 2026. This changes often, so double-check before you sign anything.
