We'll say this up front: Ryz Labs wrote this page, and we're one of the companies on it. When another option is the better call, we say so plainly.
Thoughtworks is an engineering-led consultancy founded in Chicago in 1993 and known for agile delivery and modernization. Apax Funds took it private in 2024. It says it has 10,000+ people in 47 offices across 18 countries, and it now sells AI strategy, agentic AI engineering and two platforms launched in 2026: AI/works for agentic development and Agent/works for governing agents in production. People look at alternatives for a few structural reasons. Its workforce is weighted toward Asia-Pacific (63.1% in its last public filing, with 13.7% in Latin America and 9.3% in North America), so New York overlap depends on which office staffs you. Its public financial-services proof is a modernization case, not production AI. The platforms are new. And since going private, it publishes less financial detail. For consulting-led modernization at scale, though, Thoughtworks has one of the best track records around.
If you want senior engineers who build AI inside your cloud and ship it to production, on New York hours, start with us. Fortune 500 engineering teams trust us, and only the top 1% of engineers make it through our vetting. Our AI pod teams are dedicated groups of senior engineers (often around seven, including a tech lead, an ML engineer and backend engineers) working in your repos, CI and standups as one team, with weekly demos. We work in AWS, Azure, GitHub and Postgres, with Anthropic and OpenAI models. When the system is done, you can grow the pod or have us hand it over. Our pods have production systems behind them: fraud detection for a global fleet company that has scored 244K+ invoices in under 30 seconds each and surfaced $5.94M in fraud confirmed by the client's own team, and marketing compliance review for a global capital management firm that cut review time from days to hours. See our case studies.
Where we're not the right fit: we don't do management consulting, board-level transformation programs or analyst-recognized strategy work, and we don't sell a proprietary agent platform. If you need engineers in Europe or Asia time zones, or follow-the-sun coverage, Thoughtworks' global offices fit better. See Ryz Labs vs Thoughtworks.
EPAM is the closest like-for-like for a buyer who wants an engineering-heavy firm with platforms of its own. It's an S&P 500 company with about 62,850 people, and financial services is its largest vertical (24.1% of FY2025 revenue). It brings the open-source DIAL platform and AI/Run blueprints. The catch: Clutch lists a $100,000+ minimum project, and like Thoughtworks, most delivery is outside US time zones.
Globant sells "AI Pods," a monthly subscription where agents do the work under Globant expert supervision. For modernization buyers, it reports that an unnamed commercial lender finished a COBOL migration in 2 months instead of the 14 projected. It's NYSE-listed with a big Latin American base, so overlap with US hours is better than Thoughtworks' mix. The catch: that result is anonymized, and you're buying agent output, not a named team.
If you liked Thoughtworks' strategy-plus-build approach but want something more AI-specific, Tribe AI covers Map, Build and Activate with forward-deployed engineers from a senior AI network, and has a New York office. The catch: it's small, and per TechCrunch its talent works on contracted projects, which can affect continuity.
Caylent is an AWS Premier partner that AWS named its 2024 Financial Services Industry Partner of the Year in North America and its global Generative AI Industry Solution Partner of the Year. It sells an output-based, AI-powered cloud migration offering. The catch: it's AWS-only, while Thoughtworks works across AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, Databricks and Snowflake.
Stay if you want strategy, design, data and engineering under one roof from a firm with three decades of engineering-led consulting. Stay if your AI work is really a modernization program: Thoughtworks' public case with a global lender is one of the best-documented in the industry. It says the new consumer lending line reached $800M in revenue within 24 months, the platform handles 25M+ real-time card transactions a day, and deployments went from quarterly to several a day. Stay if analyst recognition matters to your procurement team. Thoughtworks says Forrester named it a Leader and Customer Favorite for modern application development services (Q1 2025), and Gartner named it a Visionary for custom software development services (2025). And if you need multi-region delivery across 18 countries, Thoughtworks is built for it.
Consider moving if you need a team on New York hours, want production AI evidence rather than modernization evidence, or want engineers without a consulting program. Our guide to alternatives to big consultancies for building AI goes deeper.
No. Apax Funds took it private in 2024, at about $1.75B in enterprise value. Its last public annual filing covered FY2023.
EPAM has the largest financial-services practice, Globant reports a fast COBOL migration, and Caylent suits AWS migrations. See our guide to AI-led legacy modernization partners.
It doesn't publish rates. Its last public filing describes time-and-materials and fixed-price contracts. We give a custom quote scoped per team.
