Full disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we're on this list. So yes, we're biased. Here's what we'd actually tell a friend, including when you should hire someone else.
For a New York company, the deciding question is whether you need people in the room. If you want workshops in your Midtown office and a firm you can walk to, pick one with a real NYC address. If you need senior engineers shipping in your repos on Eastern time, a remote or nearshore team is usually faster and costs less. We're the second kind: remote, not local.
New York buyers skew toward financial services, media, insurance and large enterprises, and those buyers bring procurement, security reviews and a high bar for code review. A vendor that can't pass a vendor-risk questionnaire won't get to the first sprint. Ask about SOC 2 reports, background checks and how engineers access production before you talk price.
Second, hours. Your markets, your customers and your on-call rotation run on Eastern time. A team in Eastern Europe overlaps a few morning hours. A team in Asia overlaps almost none. Latin America sits at or near Eastern time, which is why so many New York teams use it.
Third, cost. New York engineering salaries are among the highest in the country, and local agencies price accordingly. That's the main reason New York firms mix a local partner for strategy with remote engineers for delivery.
We provide senior Latin American engineers who work on your team: your standups, your repos, your roadmap. They work New York business hours, so code review happens the same day. We're trusted by Fortune 500 engineering teams, and only the top 1% of the tens of thousands of engineers we've interviewed make it through our vetting process. Our AI pod teams build AI systems in your cloud and ship them to production. Our case studies include fraud detection for a global fleet company and marketing compliance for a global capital management firm.
Why we're first here: most New York teams we talk to don't need another office nearby. They need senior people on Eastern time who can own a service. That's what we do. More at software development for New York companies and nearshore developers for New York.
Where we're not the right fit: we're remote. We have no New York office, so if you want a partner in your conference room every week, pick Thoughtworks, Lumenalta or Blue Label Labs. If you want design, branding and a launch campaign from one agency, Fueled fits better. And if you need follow-the-sun coverage across Europe and Asia, a global network is a better match.
Thoughtworks lists a New York office at 99 Madison Avenue. It was founded in Chicago in 1993 and says it has 10,000+ people in 47 offices across 18 countries. It sells AI strategy and agentic engineering alongside its long-standing modernization work.
Why it fits: a large, engineering-led consultancy with a Manhattan base. The catch: in its last public filing, most of its people were in Asia-Pacific, so confirm who is on your team. See Ryz Labs vs Thoughtworks.
Fueled offers digital strategy, mobile apps, AI and enterprise web. It was founded in 2007, says it has 300+ experts, and describes its team as "Fully remote." Its case studies include the WhiteHouse.gov relaunch and Google's Site Kit for WordPress.
Why it fits: strong for brand-facing apps and big content sites. The catch: it's an agency, so it fits a defined build better than long-term capacity on your team.
BlueLabel calls itself "An Agentic AI Strategy and Development Agency." It says it is a remote-first team of 100+ and has built 350+ products, with its headquarters in New York.
Why it fits: a New York-headquartered team for iOS, Android and AI-feature builds. The catch: it's product-agency shaped, so ask how it supports a system after launch.
Lumenalta (formerly Clevertech) lists a New York office on Avenue of the Americas. It says it has worked since 2000, that its teams average 12 years of experience, and that squads have one product lead, one tech lead and senior contributors.
Why it fits: senior teams that own outcomes with little hand-holding. The catch: squads come as a unit, so it's less suited to adding one engineer to your team.
Infinum was founded in 2005 and lists 396 people in 2025. Its New York office is on West 50th Street, with most other offices in Europe.
Why it fits: strong design and engineering under one roof. The catch: most of the team is six hours ahead of New York, so plan for morning overlap.
BairesDev says it has 4,000+ engineers, mostly in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, who "work your hours." It offers staff augmentation, dedicated teams and outsourcing.
Why it fits: the largest Latin American bench here. The catch: pricing isn't public. See Ryz Labs vs BairesDev.
If you have a team and need senior engineers on Eastern time, our pick is Ryz Labs. You get people who work your hours, in your repos, at a published price range.
If you're a large enterprise starting a multi-year modernization, Thoughtworks has the bench and the Manhattan office.
If you want an agency to design and build a consumer app, Fueled or Blue Label Labs.
If you want senior squads that own a project end to end, Lumenalta.
Only if you need frequent in-person work. Most build work happens in repos and video calls. Time-zone overlap matters more than an office address.
None of the firms here publish rates. For team-based work, cost is team size times months times monthly rate. Four senior engineers at $12,000 a month for six months is $288,000 at our rates.
Colombia, Peru and much of Mexico are at or near Eastern time. Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Brazil are usually one to two hours ahead.
Yes, if you plan for it. Ask for background checks, device policies and how production access works, and give the team least-privilege access from day one.
We checked pricing and services for every provider here in October 2026. This changes often, so double-check before you sign anything.
