Heads up: we're Ryz Labs, and we compete with both firms on this page. We think we're the right call for most US engineering teams, and we explain why below. Facts about HatchWorks AI and BairesDev come from their own pages, Clutch and their public material, listed under Sources.
The question that settles this one: do you already know what AI you want built? If you don't, and you want a partner to work out the use cases, build a roadmap and then manage adoption across your staff, HatchWorks AI is designed around exactly that. If you know what you need and simply want more engineers, across almost any stack, BairesDev has the larger bench and will also run the project for you with its own PMs.
Most of the teams we talk to sit in between. They know the problem, they have engineering leads, and they want senior people who can build an AI system with them and ship it. For that buyer we'd pick Ryz Labs: top 1% senior engineers or a full AI pod team, working in your repos and reporting to your leads, at a price we publish.
Here is every public price signal we found, checked October 2026. Most firms in this market don't publish a rate card, so we show the hourly band on their Clutch listing and convert it to a monthly figure for one full-time engineer.
Monthly figures are our math at 160 hours a month. Directory bands are entered by the firms themselves and are not quotes, so ask each vendor for a written monthly price for the same roles at the same seniority.
HatchWorks AI starts above the code. The Atlanta firm, founded in 2016, says it refocused entirely on AI after November 2022. Its method has three stages: GenROI (strategy), GenDD (Generative-Driven Development, the build) and GenEQ (change management, so your staff actually use what gets built). Its Forward Deployed Engineers page is clear that these engineers are "not staff augmentation"; they arrive as part of a HatchWorks engagement. It partners with Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Cloud and Databricks, says it has "100+ certified engineers," and states that clients own the IP with no long-term commitment required.
BairesDev starts with headcount. Founded in Buenos Aires in 2009, it says 2.5M+ people apply each year and it hires fewer than 1%. You can take individual engineers, a dedicated team whose tech PMs "lead the team and drive delivery," or hand over a whole project. AI is one service line among many, with an AI transformation offering added in 2026. Its value pitch is cost: engineers that "typically run 30-50% less than the fully loaded cost of a local hire."
So the split is really about who owns the thinking. HatchWorks AI wants to shape the AI agenda with you. BairesDev wants to supply the people, and the management if you like, to deliver an agenda you already have.

If you're torn between these two, you probably want AI expertise without giving up control of the roadmap. That's the gap we fill.
AI builders, not an AI program. Our AI pod teams don't sell you a strategy stage first. A pod of about seven senior engineers, with a tech lead, an ML engineer and backend engineers, joins your repos, CI and standups and starts building, showing working software in weekly demos. One pod built a driver-support agent that now covers about 218,000 driver calls a year in three languages, cutting per-call cost by about 95% according to the live case study. More on how AI pod teams work.
Your leads stay in charge. Unlike a PM-run dedicated team, Ryz engineers work on your team, reporting to your leads. They're in your accounts, and you control and can revoke access at any time. The code and IP are yours.
Senior by default. Only the top 1% of the tens of thousands of engineers we've interviewed make it through recruiter sourcing, our ARC ranking and structured NTRVSTA AI interviews. Mid-level engineers (comparable to Amazon L5) run $7,000 to $10,000 a month; senior (comparable to L6) $10,000 to $15,000.
No waiting on a roadmap phase. We can usually start in under two weeks once you say go, and most of our engineers ship code in their first week.
We've written single comparisons too: Ryz Labs vs HatchWorks AI and Ryz Labs vs BairesDev. If you're still shopping, see HatchWorks AI alternatives, BairesDev alternatives, HatchWorks AI competitors and BairesDev competitors.
Not quite. HatchWorks AI says its FDEs are "not staff augmentation," so they come inside a HatchWorks engagement. BairesDev does sell individual engineers. Ryz engineers join your team and report to your leads.
Its GenROI stage runs 4 to 8 weeks, and it says GenDD reaches a first production release in 8 to 12 weeks. If you already know the use case, you may not need the strategy stage at all.
Not directly. BairesDev compares itself to a local hire; HatchWorks AI scopes per outcome. Ask both for a monthly figure for the same roles, and compare with our published rates.
HatchWorks AI lists Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Cloud and Databricks. Our pods build with Anthropic and OpenAI models on AWS, Azure, GitHub and Postgres. Tell us your stack.
We checked every price and service on this page in October 2026. Vendors change these often, so confirm before you sign.
