Azumo vs BairesDev: which to choose (and a better option)

Azumo prices working software by the unit. BairesDev sells people by the engagement. The right one depends on what you're actually buying.

We'll say this up front: Ryz Labs wrote this comparison, and we sell some of the same things Azumo and BairesDev do. We'll be straight about when either of them is the better fit. Their facts come from their own websites and Clutch listings, linked at the bottom.

The short answer

Start with one question: are you buying a finished feature or ongoing engineering capacity? Azumo is unusual in this market because it puts a price on the page: "$499 to $899 per Delivery Unit," where a unit is "a defined, testable piece of working software." That suits an MVP, a proof of concept or a single feature with a clear edge. BairesDev sells capacity instead, from a pool of 4,000+ engineers, and quotes each engagement after a call.

If what you really want is senior people working inside your product for months, neither unit pricing nor a vendor-run team is the cleanest answer. Ryz Labs publishes a monthly price per engineer, and those engineers report to your leads.

What Azumo and BairesDev costs per engineer vs Ryz

Here is every public price signal we found, checked October 2026. Most firms in this market don't publish a rate card, so we show the hourly band on their Clutch listing and convert it to a monthly figure for one full-time engineer.

ProviderPublishes prices?Public price signalPer engineer per month (160 hrs)
Ryz Labs (us)YesMid-level $7,000 to $10,000; senior $10,000 to $15,000; leads $15,000+, quoted per team$7,000 to $15,000
AzumoYesOwn site: "$499 to $899 per Delivery Unit", a defined piece of working software, not an hourly rate; Clutch: $25 - $49/hr, $10,000+ minimum projectAbout $4,000 to $7,840
BairesDevNoClutch: $50 - $99/hr, $50,000+ minimum projectAbout $8,000 to $15,840

Monthly figures are our math at 160 hours a month. Directory bands are entered by the firms themselves and are not quotes, so ask each vendor for a written monthly price for the same roles at the same seniority.

How Azumo and BairesDev differ

Pricing logic. Azumo's tiers drop in price per unit as the project grows: Starter at $899 for MVPs and single-feature builds that run up to 2 to 6 weeks, Growth at $699 for builds of one to four months, Platform at $499, and Custom on request. "You see the price and the timeline before we start," it says. BairesDev's promise is relative rather than absolute: its engineers "typically run 30-50% less than the fully loaded cost of a local hire."

Size and reach. BairesDev says it works with 500+ clients across 100+ technologies, with engineers spread over 20+ Latin American countries. Azumo, headquartered in San Francisco, doesn't publish a headcount on the pages we checked, but says it has been "building production AI since 2016" and also sells its own AI tools.

Staffing style. On staff augmentation, Azumo has its architects handpick people and lets you meet and choose, and it keeps "extra resources" in reserve who learn your application. BairesDev pairs its dedicated teams with its own tech PMs.

Why Ryz Labs, for buyers stuck between per-unit and per-engagement pricing

Price is what usually brings people to this comparison, so let's start there.

A number you can budget against. Our pricing is per engineer per month and it's public: mid-level (comparable to Amazon L5) $7,000 to $10,000, senior (comparable to L6) $10,000 to $15,000, leads quoted per team. A pod of five senior engineers runs about $50,000 to $75,000 a month. You can put that in a budget before anyone gets on a call. See our rates.

Long-running work without re-scoping. Unit pricing works when the scope is fixed. Products change. Ryz engineers join your standups and roadmap, so a change in priorities is a conversation with your own lead, not a new quote.

AI work in production. When you need AI built, a Ryz AI pod team builds it in your AWS or Azure account. One pod shipped an AI real-estate agent that works around the clock; another built fraud detection that scored 244K+ invoices in under 30 seconds each. Browse the case studies.

Low risk to try. If an engineer isn't the right fit, we replace them free. We'll sign your NDA before sharing profiles, and you own the code.

Questions

How do I compare a Delivery Unit price with an hourly rate?

You can't directly. A unit is a piece of tested software, so its cost per hour depends on how many hours that piece takes. Ask Azumo how many units your scope needs, and ask BairesDev for a monthly team price.

Does Azumo's Clutch rate mean it's cheaper than BairesDev?

Clutch shows Azumo at $25-$49/hr and BairesDev at $50-$99/hr, but those bands are entered by the firms and aren't quotes. Compare written proposals for the same roles.

Can I switch from a unit-priced build to a dedicated team later?

Azumo offers both, so you can ask. With Ryz you'd start on monthly engineers from day one and scale up or down.

Who manages the engineers day to day?

BairesDev's dedicated teams have tech PMs; Azumo adds senior oversight at kickoff. Ryz engineers report to your leads. Talk to us about the roles you need.

Where Ryz fits

Ryz Labs is one more option to price alongside the firms on this page. We provide senior engineers and AI pod teams who work on your team and report to your leads. Here is how Ryz answers the questions buyers ask most.

QuestionRyz Labs
Price per engineer per month$7,000 to $15,000. Mid-level engineers run about $7,000 to $10,000 a month and senior engineers $10,000 to $15,000; leads are quoted per team.
Time to startOnce you say go, engineers can typically start in under 2 weeks; some teams take 3 to 6 weeks depending on the project and your start date. After a scoping call you get a proposed team, with the names of the engineers and a price, before you sign anything, and most Ryz engineers ship code in their first week.
How vetting worksRecruiters source candidates, an in-house system ranks the pipeline and candidates take structured technical interviews, with recruiter review at every step. Only the top 1% of the tens of thousands of engineers we interview each year make it.
On your team?Yes. Engineers work in your repos and standups, report to your leads and keep US business hours, including New York hours.
