Gun.io pricing: what it costs in 2026

Gun.io says it has no standard prices. Here's how its retainers and fees work, and why a scoped Ryz quote is the better value for most US teams.

We'll say this up front: Ryz Labs wrote this page, and we think we're the better choice here. We've kept every fact about other companies to what they publish themselves or what public listings show, with sources at the end.

The short answer

Gun.io says: "We don't have standard prices on Gun.io." Instead it offers "flexible retainers based on your needs, the project at hand, and developers' salary expectations," and says "You'll see the full price upfront on developers' profiles; there are no additional fees." What is published: full-time salaried placement costs 20% of the negotiated first-year salary, developers keep 100% of their requested rate (Gun.io's fees are charged to clients), and clients sign a two-year non-solicitation agreement. Clutch lists a minimum project size under $10,000 and no hourly band.

For most US teams, the better value is Ryz Labs. You get top 1% senior Latin American engineers who join your team on New York hours, and before you sign you see a scoped plan, a price, and the names of the people who would do the work. If you're pricing senior engineers, get a Ryz quote for the same brief.

How Gun.io pricing works

Gun.io handles contracts, hours tracking, billing, payments, and payroll and compliance across "100+ countries." We found no formal trial period or written replacement guarantee on its pages; its homepage says "Experience the power of Gun.io risk-free" without stating terms. Ask for those terms in writing.

What drives the cost

The developer's salary expectations. Gun.io prices around them directly, so the person you choose sets most of the price.

Seniority. Gun.io says "70% of currently engaged devs have 10+ years of experience," and the pricing follows the experience level.

Engagement shape. A block of hours, a recurring retainer, contract-to-hire and a direct placement are priced differently. Gun.io's FAQ says the platform is "mostly optimized for individual freelancers," so a team means several individual engagements.

Location. The network is global with no time-zone commitment, so overlap with your hours depends on the developer.

Exit terms. The two-year non-solicitation agreement and negotiated buy-out matter if you might later hire someone directly. Ask how the buy-out is calculated.

Because there's no rate card, the cleanest comparison is to send Gun.io and every other vendor the same brief, then compare what each quote covers: who the people are, where they work, and who manages the day-to-day work.

How Ryz pricing works

We quote per team, scoped to the work you actually need. After a first conversation you get three things in writing: a scoped plan, a price, and the names of the people who would do the work. You know who you're paying for, and what it costs, before you sign.

You sign one contract with Ryz. Our engineers work with us as independent contractors, and we handle paying them. If you want someone on your own payroll, we also offer direct-hire placement and executive search.

The price buys top 1% senior Latin American engineers, out of tens of thousands interviewed, who join your standups, repos and roadmap from week one, within about one hour of US time zones. They work as part of your team, to your leads. Fortune 500 engineering teams trust us for exactly this.

When you need AI built, an AI pod team (about 7 senior engineers, including a tech lead and an ML engineer) works inside your cloud and repos with weekly demos and ships to production. Our case studies include a marketing-compliance system for a global capital management firm that took review of 8,000+ documents from days to hours.

Is Gun.io worth it?

Gun.io fits a company that wants one contractor from a global network on a path to full-time employment.

For most US teams, Ryz is the better value. A Gun.io retainer covers an individual you coordinate yourself, with time-zone overlap that depends on where they live. A Ryz quote covers top 1% senior engineers who work as part of your team on New York hours, named before you sign, with AI pod teams available when you need AI shipped to production.
