Disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we compete with the companies on this page. Read it with that in mind. We've flagged every case where we'd send you elsewhere.
X-Team has embedded remote developers in client teams since 2006, and it reports strong retention. People look for alternatives for structural reasons, not because the talent is weak. Its developers are spread across 50+ countries and the model is async-first, so live overlap with New York depends on who you're matched with. It publishes no pass rate, no rates and no trial, and a contracted scope has a 3-month minimum. And X-Team itself says matching a single programmer can take "a few weeks". If your team already works async across continents, X-Team may still be the right call. If you need engineers live in your standups on US hours, here's what we'd look at.
We're the most direct swap if you like X-Team's embedded model but need real-time overlap. Our senior Latin American engineers join your standups, repos and roadmap from week one, and all of them work within about an hour of US time zones. Fortune 500 engineering teams trust us, and only the top 1% make it through a vetting process we publish: recruiters source, our in-house ARC system ranks, every candidate does a structured NTRVSTA AI interview, and people make every decision. We also run AI pod teams that build AI systems inside your cloud and ship them to production, as our case studies show.
Where we're not the right fit: if you want engineers in Europe or Asia, an async-first global team, or recruitment process outsourcing, X-Team or Andela fit better. We also don't publish prices. Full comparison: Ryz Labs vs X-Team.
BairesDev says it has 4,000+ engineers across 100+ technologies, that its engineers "work your hours", and that teams are ready in 2 to 4 weeks. It sits in the same Clutch rate band as X-Team ($50-$99/hr), with a 4.9/5 Clutch rating when we checked. If you need many engineers at once on Americas hours, it's a strong option. The catch: pricing isn't published, and some Clutch reviewers mention rate increases and early developer churn.
X-Team buyers often care about developer happiness and retention. Howdy builds its model around that too: engineers are hired through EOR with benefits, coaching, equipment and office access in its "Howdy Houses", and it publishes its fee split (85% to the professional, 15% to Howdy). It markets "Top 1% LatAm engineering talent". The catch: Howdy says a full recruitment cycle typically takes 4 to 6 weeks, and we found no trial.
If X-Team's "few weeks" to match is the problem, Toptal says its average time to match is under 24 hours. It offers a trial of up to two weeks and says you won't be billed if you're not satisfied, and you can hire hourly, part-time or full-time. The catch: Toptal is a freelance network, so you manage more yourself, and Clutch lists it at $100-$149/hr, higher than X-Team's band.
If you like X-Team's global reach and want something larger, Andela says it has 17,000 certified AI-native engineers, and it offers individual engineers, blended teams and AI system development. Its vetting combines a skills assessment reviewed by trained humans, proctoring and an interview. The catch: like X-Team, overlap with US Eastern depends on the person, and pricing isn't published.
Stay if your team already runs async across time zones, because X-Team's model is built for that. Stay if retention is your top concern and the developer you have is great: X-Team reports a 98% talent retention rate, and its developers work with one client at a time. Stay if you work in gaming, media or consumer tech, where X-Team names clients such as Riot Games and Fox. And stay if you want recruitment process outsourcing or permanent placement from the same vendor. Its Clutch rating (4.9/5 from 8 reviews when we checked) is strong.
Consider switching if you need guaranteed live overlap with New York, published vetting, or a team that builds AI systems end to end. Our guides to companies to hire AI engineers and LatAm staff augmentation companies go deeper.
Ryz Labs, BairesDev and Howdy all place Latin American engineers who work US hours. Toptal and Andela are global, so check each person.
Toptal offers a trial of up to two weeks. X-Team, BairesDev and Howdy don't publish one, and neither do we. Our Toptal alternatives page compares trial terms.
Andela markets AI-native engineers, and X-Team calls its talent "AI-certified". If you need a pod to build and ship an AI system, or machine learning engineers on US hours, our AI pod teams are built for that.
Howdy publishes its 85/15 fee split, and Toptal publishes its $79 monthly matching fee. Nobody here publishes a full rate card, so get quotes for the same role and seniority. If you'd like one from us, talk to us.
