Best mobile app development companies in 2026

Product agencies, design-led studios and engineering teams compared on who designs, who builds, and who maintains your app after launch.

Full disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we're on this list. So yes, we're biased. Here's what we'd actually tell a friend, including when you should hire someone else.

TL;DR

If you need a new app designed and built from nothing, a product agency with strong design is usually the right buy, and that isn't us. If you already have an app and a team, and you need more senior iOS, Android or React Native engineers working your backlog on US hours, that's where we fit. The question that decides it: do you need a product designed, or engineering capacity for a product you already have?

Why mobile is different

Mobile has constraints web teams don't. You ship through App Store and Google Play review, so a bad release can't be rolled back in minutes. You support old OS versions and many devices. Offline behavior, push notifications, deep links, background tasks and battery use all need specific skill. And the first choice, native Swift and Kotlin versus React Native or Flutter, shapes hiring for years. Our Flutter vs React Native guide covers that trade-off.

The other difference is that an app is never done. After launch come OS updates every year, new device sizes, store policy changes and crash reports. Ask every vendor what happens in year two, and who will be on call when a release breaks sign-in.

Mobile buyers usually need one of three things

  1. A new product: research, design and a first release.
  2. A rebuild: an aging app moved to a modern stack.
  3. Capacity: more senior engineers for an app you already run.

1. Fueled

Best forNew apps where design and product strategy matter most
PricingNot published
Talent based inNew York-based

Fueled is a New York firm doing mobile app development for iOS and iPadOS, web and enterprise CMS (through its 10up practice), and AI and ML features. It says its apps have won "App of the Year" recognition.

Where it fits: a high-visibility launch where design is the differentiator. The catch: an agency build means planning for who maintains the app afterward.

2. TELUS Digital (formerly WillowTree)

Best forEnterprises running mobile as part of a broader digital program
PricingNot published
Talent based inGlobal

WillowTree, a digital partner since 2008, is now part of TELUS Digital. It offers web and mobile app development, experience design, and data and AI work, and says it serves 600+ clients with an NPS of 70+.

Visit thoughtbot

5. Ryz Labs (us)

Best forTeams with an app in production that need senior mobile engineers on US hours
Pricing$7,000 to $15,000 per engineer per month, mostly mid-level to senior; quotes scoped per team
Talent based inLatin America, working US business hours, including New York hours

We're trusted by Fortune 500 engineering teams, and our mobile app development work is mostly the third job above: senior Latin American engineers who join your team, your standups and your repos. You can add iOS developers, Android developers or React Native developers, plus backend and product design people. Only the top 1% of the tens of thousands of engineers we've interviewed make it, and real-time overlap with US teams means same-day code review. A dedicated team or outsourced build is also available for a scoped app.

Rates are public: mid-level engineers at $7,000 to $10,000 a month and seniors at $10,000 to $15,000. You get a plan, a price and the names of the people before you start. See iOS developer rates.

Where we're not the right fit: if you need brand, research and product design to define a new app, Fueled, TELUS Digital or thoughtbot lead with that and we don't. If you want short hourly gigs from a freelance marketplace, we're not that either.

6. BairesDev

Best forVendor-managed mobile builds with Latin American engineers
PricingNot published
Talent based inLatin America

BairesDev builds in Swift, Kotlin, React Native and Flutter, and offers staff augmentation, dedicated teams and outsourcing. It claims 1,480+ projects delivered. See Ryz Labs vs BairesDev.

Our pick

If you need a new app designed and launched: Fueled or thoughtbot for product and design, TELUS Digital for enterprise scale.

If you're in Europe or fine with partial overlap: Netguru.

If you already have an app and need senior mobile engineers on US hours: Ryz Labs. Your leads direct the work, and you can scale the team as the roadmap grows.

If you want one vendor for mobile and backend: BairesDev. For broader options, see software development companies.

What we'd do this week

  1. Decide native or cross-platform before you talk to vendors, or ask each for a written recommendation and the reasons.
  2. Ask every vendor for two apps they built that are still live, and check their store ratings and update history.
  3. Ask who handles OS updates, store rejections and crash triage after launch.
  4. Make sure your Apple and Google developer accounts, signing keys and repos are in your name.

Questions

How much does mobile app development cost?

Agencies rarely publish prices. For a team, multiply size by months by monthly rate: two senior mobile engineers and one backend engineer at $12,000 a month for five months is $180,000. Design is extra if you need it.

Native or cross-platform?

Cross-platform (React Native, Flutter) suits most business apps and saves a codebase. Native suits apps that lean hard on device features or performance. See iOS and Android development.

Should we hire an agency or add engineers?

If you don't have a product team yet, an agency. If you do, adding engineers keeps knowledge in-house.

Who should own the developer accounts?

You. Store accounts, signing keys and code should be in your company's name from day one.
