Disclosure: we're Ryz Labs, and we compete with some of the companies on this page. Here's why we think we're the right call for most engineering teams, with a source for every fact about the others.
Wellfound, formerly AngelList Talent, is the job board and recruiting platform many startups use first. It says 27,000+ companies hire there, drawing on 10M+ candidates who opted in to hear from startups, and it has been a separate company from AngelList since its 2022 rebrand. Posting jobs is free ("Unlimited jobs, unlimited applicants, and a built-in ATS: $0 forever"), with paid job ads from $200, sourcing seats at $135 or $199 per seat a month, and an Autopilot recruiter service at $500 a month per open role plus a 10% placement fee on a hire. It's a great way to hire full-time employees if you have the time to screen. Wellfound doesn't vet engineers for you; even on Autopilot, its page says "You review and approve." Teams look for an alternative when they need a senior engineer working this month, already screened, or a whole team. For that, our pick is Ryz Labs. Here's how the options compare.
Here is every public price signal we found, checked October 2026. Most firms in this market don't publish a rate card, so we show the hourly band on their Clutch listing and convert it to a monthly figure for one full-time engineer.
Monthly figures are our math at 160 hours a month. Directory bands are entered by the firms themselves and are not quotes, so ask each vendor for a written monthly price for the same roles at the same seniority.
If you need senior engineers shipping on your product without running a full hiring funnel, we're the best alternative to Wellfound. Our engineers work on your team, reporting to your leads. They join your standups, your repos and your roadmap from week one, on US business hours, so review and pairing happen the same day. Fortune 500 engineering teams trust us, and so do fast-growing companies across industries.
The screening is done before you see anyone. We've interviewed tens of thousands of engineers, and only the top 1% make it. Recruiters source candidates, our in-house ARC system ranks the pipeline, every candidate goes through a structured NTRVSTA AI interview, and recruiters review each one before and after. AI scores are advisory; people decide. Instead of an inbox of applicants, you get a short list of people who fit your roles. Our vetting process page shows every step.
When you need AI built, our AI pod teams are dedicated pods of senior engineers (often around seven, with a tech lead and an ML engineer) that build in your cloud and repos, with weekly demos. Their work runs in production: fraud detection that has scored 244K+ invoices in under 30 seconds each, an AI voice platform with 1M+ outbound calls, and a compliance system that took review of 8,000+ documents from days to hours. See our case studies.
When you want to hire someone permanently, we also run direct-hire placement and executive search. Before you sign anything, you get a scoped plan, a price, and the names of the people who would do the work.
Arc is the closest swap if you still want to hire full-time employees but skip the first screen. It says its candidates are "fully vetted for domain expertise and English fluency," charges 20% of annual salary for a full-time hire, and offers a trial of up to two weeks for freelancers. You interview and manage each person. See Ryz Labs vs Arc.
Toptal says it accepts fewer than 3% of 200,000+ yearly applicants, introduces candidates within 24 hours in almost all cases, and starts each engagement with a trial of up to two weeks. Its FAQ lists a $79 monthly subscription once you proceed with matching.
Lemon.io matches startups with pre-screened freelance and full-time developers. It says matching takes about 24 hours and that there's no minimum on hours or duration, and it matches individuals rather than teams.
Gun.io is a Nashville-based platform for vetted freelance engineers. It shows the full price on each profile, says most of its engaged developers have 10+ years of experience, and charges 20% of first-year salary when you hire someone full-time.
If you need senior engineers working now, or an AI system built and shipped, talk to us. Our guides to developer staffing for startups and staff augmentation for scaling engineering teams compare the wider field.
If you want to keep hiring full-time employees, Arc is the nearest swap. If you need senior engineers on your team quickly, already vetted, we'd pick Ryz Labs: top 1% engineers on US hours, with the names of your engineers before you sign.
Job posts are free. Its pricing page lists job ads from $200 per ad, sourcing seats at $135 or $199 per seat a month (plus a free tier and custom plans), and Autopilot at $500 a month per open role plus a 10% placement fee when you hire.
Wellfound describes itself as a talent marketplace and recruiting platform, not a vetting service. Its tools rank and filter applicants, and you review and approve them. With Ryz, screening is done before you meet anyone.
No. Wellfound was AngelList Talent until its 2022 rebrand, and its about page says the two are now separate companies.
We checked every provider on this page in October 2026. Plans and prices change often, so confirm them before you buy.
