Work on a US company’s engineering team, remotely from Canada
Many senior engineers in Canada work on US teams without leaving home. Here is what the work looks like and how Ryz Labs fits in.
By the Ryz Labs team · Updated October 2026
Ryz Labs places senior engineers on the teams of US companies. If you live in Canada, you can work remotely on one of those teams, during US business hours, reporting to its leads, without relocating.
What changes when your team is in the US
- Your calendar: you work US business hours, which line up differently depending on your province.
- Your rituals: stand-ups, planning, demos and retros follow the US team’s rhythm.
- Your holidays: US and Canadian holidays differ (Thanksgiving falls on different dates, for example), so plan time off with the team ahead.
- Your communication: more async work, so clear writing matters.
Time zones by province
- Ontario and Quebec (Eastern Time): the same clock as New York.
- Atlantic Canada: one hour ahead of New York in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI.
- Manitoba (Central Time): the same clock as Chicago; Saskatchewan matches Chicago in winter and Denver in summer.
- Alberta (Mountain Time): two hours behind New York.
- British Columbia (Pacific Time): the same clock as California.
What the work is like
You become part of a US company’s product team and report to its engineering leads. You pick up tickets from the same backlog, review pull requests and join the team’s rituals. Ryz works with growth-stage startups and with Fortune 500 engineering teams alike.
Teams expect senior engineers to raise risks early, scope their own work and keep stakeholders informed without being asked.
How the selection process works
- Apply. You apply through the Join the team page with your experience and main stack.
- AI-assisted technical interview. A structured technical conversation about your real experience. People make the decisions, not the AI.
- Interviews with Ryz recruiters. They go deeper into your experience, how you work and how you communicate.
- Introduction to the team. When a team matches your profile, we introduce you. The last step is a final interview with that team.
The bar is high: only the top 1% of the tens of thousands of engineers we interview make it onto a team.

Can I work on a US team while living in Canada?
Yes. With Ryz, you work remotely from Canada on a US company’s team. You do not need to move or get a US visa.
Will I be the only remote person on the team?
It depends on the team. Many US teams are distributed across cities and time zones, so remote rituals are already part of how they work.
Do US and Canadian holidays matter?
Yes. The calendars differ, so it helps to share your holidays with the team early and plan around releases.
Do you work with junior engineers?
Ryz works mainly with senior engineers: people who have shipped systems to production and can work independently on a US team.
How is AI used in the selection process?
One stage is an AI-assisted technical interview. It structures the process, but people make the decisions: Ryz recruiters review every profile.
What kinds of companies will I work with?
US companies across industries, from growth-stage startups to Fortune 500 engineering teams.
