Software development and AI pod teams for payments
Engineering teams and AI pods that build authorization, settlement, reconciliation and fraud systems for processors, PSPs, platforms and payout companies.
By the Ryz Labs team · Updated October 2026
Ryz staffs senior Latin American engineers and dedicated AI pod teams for payment companies: processors, payment facilitators, platforms with embedded payments, payout providers and merchants with complex checkout. Our teams build authorization and settlement services, reconciliation, payment orchestration and fraud detection, and our pods have shipped fraud detection to production. They work on US business hours, so incidents and partner calls get same-day attention.
What we build for payments teams
Payments systems fail in specific ways: double charges, lost webhooks, settlement files that don't match, and fraud that moves to whichever rail you protect least. Our engineers build:
- Authorization and gateway services. Low-latency auth paths with idempotency keys, timeouts, reversals and retries that never charge a customer twice.
- Payment orchestration. Routing across acquirers and PSPs such as Adyen, Stripe, Worldpay and Checkout.com by cost, approval rate and availability, with failover.
- Settlement and reconciliation. Parsing acquirer and network settlement files, matching them to internal ledgers, and surfacing breaks, fees and chargebacks to finance.
- Payfac and marketplace payments. Sub-merchant onboarding and underwriting, split payments, reserves, and payouts to sellers and gig workers.
- Account-to-account and real-time rails. ACH origination, RTP and FedNow integrations, and the return and exception handling each rail requires.
- Disputes and chargebacks. Case management that collects evidence, meets network deadlines and feeds outcomes back into risk models.
- Payroll and disbursement flows. Batch payouts, cross-border disbursements, currency conversion and payee verification.
Where AI pods help in payments
Payments produces structured, labeled data at volume, which makes it one of the better places for machine learning in production. An AI pod builds these systems in your cloud:
- Transaction fraud scoring. Real-time models that combine device, velocity, merchant and network signals within your authorization latency budget. The hard parts are feature freshness, label delay from chargebacks and a fallback when the model is slow. One of our pods built fraud detection for a global fleet company that scores each item in under 30 seconds and has surfaced $5.94M in fraud confirmed by the client's own fraud team. See our case studies.
- Merchant onboarding risk. Checking applications, websites and ownership documents for prohibited business types and identity mismatches, with an underwriter reviewing the result.
- Dispute evidence assembly. Gathering order, delivery and login data into network-ready representment packages and drafting the narrative, which an analyst approves.
- Reconciliation break explanation. Classifying unmatched items and proposing the likely cause, such as a fee change, partial capture or timing difference.
- Support agents for payment status. Agents that answer "where is my payout" from real ledger and rail status, with read-only tool access. See AI agent development.
Regulations and constraints our engineers work within
Our engineers have experience building within these standards, alongside your compliance and security teams and your QSA. Ryz is not PCI DSS certified and does not certify your environment.
- PCI DSS v4.0.1. The card data security standard, whose future-dated requirements became mandatory on March 31, 2025, including stronger authentication and controls on payment page scripts. Most of the engineering value is shrinking scope with tokenization and hosted fields.
- PCI PIN, PCI 3DS and network tokenization. Standards for PIN handling and 3-D Secure components, and network token programs from Visa and Mastercard.
- Card network rules. Visa and Mastercard operating rules for authorization, dispute timelines, merchant category codes and excessive chargeback and fraud programs.
- Nacha Operating Rules. ACH authorization, return rate thresholds and the risk-based fraud monitoring requirements phased in during 2026.
- Regulation E. Error resolution and liability rules for consumer electronic fund transfers.
- Money transmission and BSA/AML. State licensing, safeguarding of customer funds, KYC and sanctions screening against OFAC lists.
- PSD2 strong customer authentication. For flows that touch European cardholders, exemptions and 3-D Secure orchestration.
Integrations and data
- ISO 8583 card messages and network and acquirer APIs, plus settlement and clearing files.
- ISO 20022 for RTP and FedNow, Nacha ACH files, and SWIFT for cross-border flows.
- PSP and processor APIs such as Stripe, Adyen, Worldpay, Checkout.com and Braintree, and vaults and tokenization providers.
- Fraud and identity vendors such as Sift, Sardine, Socure and network risk scores, combined with your own models.
- Event streaming on Kafka, ledgers on Postgres, and analytics in Snowflake or BigQuery. See our API development work.
Most payments incidents trace back to state. A webhook gets processed twice, a capture times out but actually succeeds, or a refund is issued against a charge that never settled. Our engineers model each payment as an explicit state machine, store every external event before acting on it, and build replay tools so operations can safely reprocess a day of events. That discipline matters more than the choice of language or framework, and it is what auditors and partners look for after an incident.
How teams engage Ryz
Staff augmentation fits when you have a payments platform and need senior engineers on it: a Go or Java engineer on the authorization path, a data engineer on reconciliation, an SRE for on-call. They work on your team, in your repos and incident rotations. Our fintech developers page covers payments roles.
An AI pod fits when you want fraud scoring, merchant risk or dispute automation built and in production. A pod is often around seven senior engineers including a tech lead, ML engineer and backend engineers. A dedicated development team fits a scoped build such as an orchestration layer or a new payout rail.
Mid-level engineers run $7,000 to $10,000 per month, senior engineers $10,000 to $15,000 and leads $15,000 and up. Four senior engineers and a lead for six months, at $12,000 and $16,000, is $384,000. Quotes are scoped per team, with names attached.
When Ryz isn't the right fit
- You want to license a payment gateway, orchestration platform or fraud tool. Ryz builds and runs systems with your team; it does not sell software.
- You need 24/7 follow-the-sun operations coverage across Europe and Asia. A global network is a better match.
- You need a single freelancer for a quick checkout integration. A freelance marketplace is faster.

FAQ
Will your engineers be in our PCI DSS scope?
That depends on your design and your QSA's view. Engineers work in your environment, under your access controls, and most teams keep them out of the cardholder data environment except where needed. Our engineers have experience reducing scope with tokenization and hosted fields. Ryz does not hold PCI DSS certification on your behalf.
Can an AI pod build fraud scoring that fits our authorization latency?
Yes, within your latency budget. The pod designs features, model serving and rule fallbacks together, measures latency at the percentiles your network SLAs care about, and builds the feedback loop from chargebacks and analyst decisions.
Do your engineers know ISO 8583 and ISO 20022?
Our engineers have worked with card authorization messages, settlement files, ISO 20022 messages for real-time rails and Nacha ACH files, along with the exception handling each one needs.
What does a payments engineering team cost?
Typical rates are $7,000 to $15,000 per engineer per month by seniority, with leads at $15,000 and up. Project cost is team size times duration times rate.
Can your engineers join our on-call rotation?
Yes. They work on US business hours and can join your rotation and incident process for those hours, using your runbooks and paging tools.
