Product manager rates and cost to hire (2026)

What product managers cost in the US and Latin America in 2026, using BLS, Levels.fyi and regional salary surveys, plus what really drives the price.

Short answer: In the US, product managers report a median of $230K in total pay including equity (Levels.fyi, 2026), and Built In's 2026 data shows an average base salary of $133K, or about $194K with benefits. In Latin America, Levels.fyi's 2026 data puts median total pay for product managers between $31K (Colombia) and $89K (Mexico) across Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Chile.

Product managers decide what gets built and why. They own discovery, priorities and outcomes, and they work closely with engineering and design. BLS has no product manager occupation, so the US picture comes from Levels.fyi, Built In, Indeed and the Stack Overflow survey.

We're Ryz Labs. We place senior Latin American engineers inside US teams, so we look at these numbers every week. The market figures below are public data with their source and year. Ryz pricing (typically $7,000 to $15,000 per engineer per month) is covered below.

Product manager rates at a glance

Salary sources measure different things, so we show the measure next to every figure. BLS surveys employers and reports base wages only. Levels.fyi collects self-reported total pay, including equity and bonuses, which pulls its numbers toward large tech companies. Get on Board reports after-tax monthly salaries from job posts, so its figures read lower than gross pay. Read each row on its own terms rather than comparing them one to one.

What drives the cost

Seniority

Seniority is the biggest single driver. In the US, Levels.fyi's 2026 range for product managers runs from $126K at the 10th percentile to $465K at the 90th. Latin America shows the same pattern: Levels.fyi's 2026 medians for entry-level software engineers range from $9K to $32K across the five countries, while senior medians range from $45K to $63K. A senior engineer who can work without close supervision usually costs less in total than two juniors who need it.

Specialization

Technical depth and domain expertise drive product manager pay. Technical PMs who can work on APIs, data platforms or AI features, and PMs with deep domain knowledge in areas like payments, lending or healthcare, sit above generalists. Experience owning a P&L or a product line, rather than a feature, moves pay up again. Time-zone overlap matters more for PMs than for most engineers, because so much of the job is live conversation.

Engagement model

The same person costs different amounts depending on how you engage them. A direct hire carries salary, benefits, employer taxes and recruiting. A freelancer bills by the hour with no benefits, but you manage the work and the risk of them leaving. A staff augmentation firm charges a monthly rate per engineer that covers sourcing, vetting and replacement.

Time zone

Overlap with your working day has a cost even when it does not show up on an invoice. Engineers several time zones away often wait a day for code review or answers, and that slows the whole team. Latin America shares most of the US working day, which is a big reason US companies hire there. Lower-cost regions with little overlap can end up costing more in lost speed.

Total cost beyond salary

Salary is not the full cost of an in-house hire. In BLS's June 2026 Employer Costs for Employee Compensation release, wages made up 68.5% of total compensation for private-industry management, professional and related workers, and benefits made up the other 31.5% ($24.82 an hour on top of $54.06 in wages). That is why we divide salary by 68.5% to estimate a fully loaded figure. On top of that come costs public data does not price well: the weeks a seat sits empty while you recruit, interview time from your engineers, onboarding, equipment and software, and the management time every hire needs.

Hiring options compared

There are five common ways to bring on product managers. Each has a different cost structure, so the right comparison is total cost for the work you need done, not the headline rate.

OptionHow you payWho does the work of hiringBest for
Freelance marketplaceHourly rate the freelancer sets, plus any platform feeYou do: scoping, management, continuityShort, well-defined projects
Staffing agencyHourly or monthly rate with a markup, or a placement fee for a direct hireAgency: sourcing; you: managementFilling a seat fast, especially locally
In-house hireSalary plus benefits, employer taxes, recruiting and equipmentYou do: everythingCore roles you want long term
Nearshore staff augmentationMonthly rate per engineer that covers sourcing, vetting and replacementVendor: sourcing and vetting; you: day-to-day workAdding senior people to your team on your hours
Dedicated teamMonthly rate for a whole team, often including a tech leadVendor: team structure and delivery supportA product or system that needs several roles

Some providers publish their own figures. These are their claims, not ours, and we have not verified them. Arc's 2026 guide, based on a survey of its freelancers, puts typical hourly rates at $35 to $75 in Latin America and $82 to $130 in the US and Canada (Arc). BairesDev says nearshore development typically runs 30 to 50% below US rates (BairesDev). Howdy, drawing on its own salary data, puts Latin American software engineer salaries at $55,000 to $67,000 and its all-in cost at $65 to $72K a year (Howdy).

How Ryz pricing works

Ryz typically charges $7,000 to $15,000 per engineer per month, mostly for mid-level to senior people. Mid-level people are typically $7,000 to $10,000 a month and senior people $10,000 to $15,000. Lead engineers start at $15,000 a month, quoted per team; for junior roles, ask us for a quote. Every engagement is a custom quote, scoped per team. We place senior Latin American product managers (only the top 1% of the engineers we interview make it) who work on your team, within an hour of US time zones.

FAQ

How much does it cost to hire a product manager in Latin America?

Market pay is the floor, not the price. Levels.fyi's 2026 medians for product managers run from $31K in Colombia to $89K in Mexico. Get on Board's job-post data shows senior salaries offered across the region averaging $2,673 a month after tax. What you pay depends on how you engage them: a freelancer, a vendor or a direct hire each adds different costs on top of pay.

What does Ryz charge?

Typically $7,000 to $10,000 a month for a mid-level person and $10,000 to $15,000 for a senior person. Each quote is custom, scoped per team. Before you sign, you get a scoped plan, a price and the names of the people who would do the work.

Why is there no BLS figure for product managers?

BLS has no separate occupation for product managers. They are spread across management and computer occupations. We use Levels.fyi, Built In and Indeed for the US instead.

Can a product manager work well from Latin America for a US team?

Yes, when hours overlap. Product managers spend much of the day in live discussion with engineers, designers and stakeholders, so a time zone close to yours matters more than for most roles.
