Definition: The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard for connecting AI applications to external data sources and tools through a common interface. Anthropic introduced MCP on November 25, 2024, and published the specification, SDKs and a repository of open-source MCP servers.
MCP uses a client-server design. An AI application acts as the host and connects through MCP clients to one or more MCP servers. Each server exposes capabilities such as tools the model can call, resources it can read and reusable prompts. Instead of writing a custom integration for every model and system pair, a team builds one MCP server for a system, such as a database, ticketing tool or internal API, and any compatible AI application can use it.
MCP is useful when a company wants AI assistants or agents to work with internal systems in a consistent, governed way. Engineering work includes designing the tool interface, handling authentication and permissions, limiting what data is exposed, logging calls and testing how models use the tools.
Ryz MCP developers build and secure MCP servers for your internal systems, working on your team and in your repos.
