Definition: MLOps, short for machine learning operations, is the set of practices and tools for building, deploying, monitoring and updating machine learning models in production reliably and repeatably.
A typical pipeline covers data ingestion and validation, feature engineering, training, experiment tracking, a model registry, automated testing, deployment and monitoring. Common tools include MLflow, Kubeflow, Amazon SageMaker, Google Vertex AI and Databricks.
Many models never leave the notebook, and those that do degrade as data changes. MLOps makes training reproducible, releases traceable and retraining routine, applying CI/CD ideas to data and models.
LLMOps extends MLOps for language model applications, adding prompt versioning, evals and token cost tracking. Both rely on monitoring for model drift.
Teams new to MLOps usually start by versioning data and models, tracking experiments, and automating one deployment path end to end, then add monitoring and scheduled retraining once a model is in production and delivering value. Maturity grows step by step rather than through one large platform project.
Ryz MLOps engineers build training, deployment and monitoring pipelines in your cloud, working on your team.
