Flutter developer job description template (2026)
A complete Flutter developer job description you can copy, covering Dart, state management, native platform channels, iOS and Android releases and seniority levels.
By the Ryz Labs team · Updated October 2026
A Flutter developer job description should say which platforms the app ships to, which state management approach the codebase uses and how much native iOS and Android work sits underneath. Flutter promises one codebase, but senior Flutter work still means dealing with platform channels, plugin gaps, App Store and Play Store releases and performance on low-end Android devices. The template below targets a senior Flutter developer who owns features and releases for a production app on iOS and Android. Copy it, add your product details and cut what does not apply.
Flutter developer job description template
Job title
Senior Flutter Developer (Dart, iOS and Android)
Employment type: full-time or contract. Location: remote, with at least four hours of overlap with US Eastern time.
About the role
We are looking for a senior Flutter developer to build and ship [app name] on iOS and Android [and web / desktop]. You will own features from design handoff to store release, work with designers, backend engineers and product managers, and help set the architecture and testing standards for our Flutter codebase. Our app uses [Riverpod / Bloc] for state management and [Dio / http] for networking. You will join a mobile team of [number] engineers and report to [title].
Responsibilities
- Build screens and reusable widgets in Flutter that follow our design system and adapt to Material and Cupertino conventions where needed.
- Own state management with Riverpod or Bloc, keeping business logic testable and out of the widget tree.
- Integrate APIs with Dio or http, with code-generated models (freezed, json_serializable) and clear error and loading states.
- Write platform channels or Pigeon interfaces in Swift and Kotlin when a plugin does not exist or is not good enough.
- Evaluate pub.dev packages for maintenance, platform support and licensing before adding them, and replace abandoned ones.
- Find and fix jank with Flutter DevTools: rebuild counts, raster thread time, shader compilation and image memory.
- Handle navigation and deep links with go_router, including universal links on iOS and App Links on Android.
- Manage releases for both stores: flavors, code signing, Xcode and Gradle configuration, TestFlight, Play testing tracks and staged rollouts.
- Write unit, widget and integration tests, including golden tests for key UI, and keep them running in CI.
- Upgrade Flutter and Dart versions on a regular cadence and handle breaking changes in plugins.
- Review pull requests and help other engineers write clean, idiomatic Dart.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software development, with at least 3 years building production Flutter apps released on iOS and Android.
- Strong Dart skills: sound null safety, async and Futures, Streams, isolates, and Dart 3 features such as records, patterns and sealed classes.
- Deep understanding of how Flutter renders: the widget, element and render object trees, keys, BuildContext and when rebuilds happen.
- Production experience with at least one state management approach, such as Riverpod or Bloc, and the ability to explain why it fits.
- Experience writing platform channels or federated plugins, with working knowledge of Swift and Kotlin.
- Hands-on experience releasing to both the App Store and Google Play, including signing and handling review feedback.
- Experience profiling and fixing performance problems on real devices, including mid-range Android phones.
- Testing experience with widget, golden and integration tests in a CI system such as Codemagic, GitHub Actions or Bitrise.
- Clear written English for design docs, pull request descriptions and release notes.
Nice to have
- Flutter web or desktop in production, and knowledge of where it falls short.
- Offline-first data with Drift, Isar or Hive, including sync conflict handling.
- Add-to-app experience embedding Flutter screens into an existing native app.
- Over-the-air patching with Shorebird, within store policy limits.
- Accessibility work with Semantics widgets, screen readers and large text scaling.
- Published packages on pub.dev or contributions to the Flutter framework.
Tech stack
Flutter (stable channel), Dart 3, Riverpod or Bloc, go_router, Dio, freezed, json_serializable, Drift, Pigeon, Firebase (Crashlytics, Analytics, Cloud Messaging), Codemagic or GitHub Actions, fastlane, TestFlight, Google Play Console. Replace this list with your real stack and the platforms you ship to.
What success looks like in 6 months
- You have shipped several features on both iOS and Android and own one area of the app as its primary maintainer.
- You can run a release to both stores on your own, including handling a review rejection.
- You have fixed one visible performance problem, such as scroll jank on a long list or slow startup on Android.
- You have written a design doc the team used, for example on state management conventions or replacing a fragile plugin.
How to apply and interview process
Send your resume or LinkedIn profile, links to apps you worked on and a short note about your part in them. Our process has four steps: a 30-minute intro call, a technical conversation about a Flutter app you built, a practical exercise or pairing session on a realistic Flutter problem, and a final conversation with the team you would join. We aim to give feedback within a few days of each step.
Junior vs mid vs senior Flutter developer
Flutter makes the first screen easy. Seniority shows when the app needs native code, has performance problems on cheap devices or must ship cleanly to two stores at once.
| Level | Scope | Typical experience | Key skills |
|---|
| Junior | Individual screens and widgets in an existing app, with close review | 0-2 years | Dart basics, layout widgets, setState, calling APIs, hot reload debugging |
| Mid-level | Complete features, including state, networking, tests and store builds | 2-5 years | Riverpod or Bloc, async and Streams, navigation, widget tests, using plugins well |
| Senior | App architecture, native integration, releases and mentoring | 5+ years | Rendering pipeline, platform channels in Swift and Kotlin, performance profiling, release management, upgrade strategy |
Tips for writing a Flutter developer job description that attracts senior talent
- Name your state management. Riverpod, Bloc, Provider or something homegrown: senior Flutter developers have strong opinions and want to know what they are walking into.
- Say how much native code exists. If the app relies on custom platform channels for Bluetooth, payments or camera work, mention it. It is a draw for strong candidates and a filter for weak ones.
- List the platforms you ship. iOS and Android only, or web and desktop too. Each extra target changes the job.
- Share your Flutter version policy. Teams stuck several major versions behind the stable channel have upgrade work ahead. Be upfront about it.
- Do not require years of experience Flutter cannot have. Ask for Flutter depth plus general software experience, not an unrealistic number of years on one framework.
- Say who owns the two store releases. Signing, flavors and review responses for two stores are real work. Clarify whether the role includes them.
- Link both store listings. Candidates will check ratings and how the app feels on each platform before applying.
Skip the job post: hire a vetted senior Flutter developer
Writing a good job description is the first step of a hiring cycle that can run for months. If you need senior Flutter capacity sooner, Ryz Labs can match you with senior Flutter developers from Latin America who join your team, your repos and your standups and work within an hour of US time zones. Only the top 1% of the engineers we interview make it through our vetting, which covers Dart, Flutter internals, native integration and shipping production apps.
Our staff augmentation model lets you add one Flutter developer or a full mobile squad working on your team without rewriting your process. Ryz engineers join your team and report to your leads. Talk to us to scope your team. If you are still running your own hiring loop, our Flutter interview questions cover the topics we test for and what strong answers sound like.
FAQ
What should a Flutter developer job description include?
A job title with seniority, the platforms you ship to, your state management approach, how much native code exists, specific responsibilities including store releases, realistic requirements, your real tech stack, what success looks like after a few months and the interview steps.
Does a Flutter developer need native iOS and Android skills?
A senior one does. Most production Flutter apps eventually need a platform channel, a plugin fix or a change to Xcode or Gradle configuration. Require working knowledge of Swift and Kotlin for senior roles; for junior roles, Dart and Flutter depth matters more.
Should I hire a Flutter developer or separate iOS and Android developers?
Flutter fits when you want one team to ship the same product on both platforms and your app does not depend heavily on platform-specific UI or on adopting new OS features on release day. If deep native integration is the core of the product, separate native developers are often the better choice.
