Definition: Team extension is an engagement model in which a company adds outside engineers to its existing team, where they work in the company's processes and tools under its own technical leadership.
The client defines the roles and skills needed, interviews candidates, and onboards the engineers into its repositories, standups, sprint planning and code review. The partner handles sourcing and vetting. Engineers take direction from the client's leads, unlike a project handed to a vendor.
Team extension is closely related to staff augmentation; the term usually stresses longer-term, team-level growth rather than filling a single seat. It differs from managed services or project outsourcing, where the vendor owns delivery and the client manages outcomes.
It fits when a company has strong leadership and a clear roadmap but not enough senior engineers, or needs skills such as AI, data or mobile faster than hiring allows.
Ryz senior engineers work on your team, reporting to your leads, in US business hours. Most Ryz engineers ship code in their first week.
